Today is Friday, and Fridays are my favorite. But I have an unusual reason for Friday being my favorite. Today is MOP DAY!! Exciting, right?!! Well, it is for me. I have been mopping my floors on Fridays for the past 5 years. That's when I came across this home organization plan.
I don't follow this plan strictly. For instance, dusting day is Tuesday. I never dust.
My son has a dust allergy.
I should probably start dusting.
Eh, he's the middle child. He'll get over it. Only kidding, of course.
About the plan...it has forever ingrained me to mop on Fridays. And I love it because at the end of the week I can look at my house and relax because all is well in our household. For about 5 minutes until someone spills, vomits, or pees. Now, to be honest and fair, as much as I would like to blame my kids here, I'm usually the one who makes the first spill. Although, I do try not to pee in the floor.
Now I would like to share with you my homemade floor cleaner recipe. It's real simple and cheaper than buying whatever name brand you are using to clean your floors right now. Here it is:
1 gallon hot water
1/4 c baking soda
1/4 c vinegar
1 T dawn dish soap
Mix that up right in the bucket. I promise it will make your floors shine! And who doesn't like watching baking soda interact with vinegar...that's the real reason I make it!! :-)
Another confession. After I clean my floors, I don't touch them again until the next Friday. (Exception being there is a spill right after I mop and the mop is still wet enough to clean it..) I don't care how gross my floors get from Saturday to Thursday because I know I can look forward to Friday!
Now I intended for that to be the end of blog entry, but a spiritual connection just hit me so I can't just leave it there. How many of us clean ourselves up once a week and make ourselves look good when we go to church then the rest of the week we wallow in our filth? While God may not care about the dirt on our floors, he does care about the dirt in our hearts. So whether your mopping your floors today or not, let's clean the floors of our hearts!!
Happy Friday!
Allison

You're awesome, Allison! Thanks for starting the blog! I'll be a follower!
Thanks Laura!!

Is that so one of your 5 kids can take turns each time?
Hi Allison! Thanks so much for sharing this post... I downloaded the monthly organizing calendars you linked to. I can NEVER get enough organizing info! (wish my house looked like it, tho...) I'm visiting you today from SITS Girls, enjoy your day!

I will have to check out that home organization plan so I can get more organized with cleaning.
I'm with Traci and the moppping every 5th Saturday...except I use a steam cleaner. I hate mopping! I love your spiritual connection which is much more important than mopping. Stopping by from SITS!
Always LOVE finding another faithful friend out here in blogsville!! Lovely parallel Allison!!
I quit using mops years ago and use the two bucket method. I like it. Your recipe for cleaner is definitely going to be on my floors soon. Enjoy your SITS Day. Thanks for the reminder about our hearts.
I hope you enjoy the organizer! It's my favorite off all the cleaning plans I've seen. Hope you have a good day and thanks for stopping by!
It really is worth a look! Thanks for stopping by!
Agreed! Thanks for stopping by!
Thanks so much! Always good to find a friend in the faith! Glad you stopped by!
What is the 2 bucket method? And I really do love the recipe. I haven't bought floor cleaner in 3 years probably. I hope you give it a try! Have a great day!
Wow thanks for sharing your recipe. I can't wait to try it. And I'm not even going to tell you how long it has been since I washed my floors. I have an excuse though. I had foot surgery last month and I have all I can do to get my husband to vacuum.
Have a great SITS Day.
Fun connection. I'll be thinking about cleaning the floor of my heart whenever I see a mop now. And I actually have a desire to mop after reading this. Don't worry, I think I can fight it off.
Thanks for sharing your recipe. I do love that interaction.
Hi, Allison! I am hopping by from SITS, and really loved this cute, funny post! You're just hilarious! Oh - and who doesn't absolutely love a good homemade cleaner - thanks a million for sharing that "recipe"!
My husband and I were just talking about how we need a cleaning schedule...so this was perfect timing! Will have to check out that home organization plan you linked to. And I will try out this floor cleaning recipe (I agree, it is fun watching baking soda and vinegar interact). Thanks for sharing, happy SITS day!
I'm glad the connection stuck! Thanks for stopping by!!
Thank you! Everyone has to find the plan that works for their household, but I can't find a better one out there. Thanks for stopping by!!
I'm glad you appreciate my humor!! I hope you get a chance to try out the floor cleaner and let me know how it works for you! Have a great day and thanks for stopping by!
I hope you enjoyed your SITS Day last week. I had been reading some of your posts, but I wanted to come back and leave you some comment love. I have heard of this combination of vinegar and baking soda before, but I have yet to try it. You had me giggling with your talk of spills and pee on the floor. I like this idea of a structure approach to chores!
Thanks for coming back to comment...always appreciated!! I hope you try out the recipe. You will fall in love!
Thanks for the cleaner recipe...and Happy late SITS day!
